Most folding stools max out at 300–400 lbs on Amazon. Ours 650lbs. High-density polypropylene with 2mm thick walls (vs. 1–1.5mm) and a honeycomb ribbed underside that spreads weight evenly, not just at the center.

The seat looks like hard plastic. Is it comfortable for sitting for an hour or more?

The seat is indeed hard plastic, but there's a reason: hard seats provide better support for your sitting. In order to improve comfortable sitting, you can add thin foam cushion for maximum comfort.
